Gully Tankers: A Versatile Combination

Gully-Tanker-Cleaning-Header

Gully tankers are essential vehicles in sewer and drain system maintenance, providing specialised services for clearing and managing gullies. Often referred to as gully emptiers or jetvac combination units, they are powerful machines that provide versatility in the field for removing wastewater and clearing debris.

In a sewer system, a gully is a drainage point that collects surface water and directs it into the underground sewer or drainage system. Gullies are typically located at the edges of roads, pavements, and other paved areas where water needs to be removed to prevent flooding. A gully usually has a grated cover to prevent large debris from entering but can still collect dirt, leaves, litter, and other materials that may cause blockages if not properly maintained.

How Do Gully Tankers Work?

A gully tanker is designed to remove waste and debris from gullies, drains, and sewers. These tankers typically consist of a large tank mounted on a truck, along with powerful suction equipment. They are primarily used for clearing blocked gullies, sewers, and drains of waste, such as mud, leaves, litter, and other debris, preventing them from overflowing and causing environmental issues such as flooding or water contamination.

Gully tankers operate with two main functions:

Suction System The tanker is equipped with a high-powered vacuum system that sucks up waste material from gullies and drainage systems. This suction system can remove both liquids and solids from the targeted areas, effectively clearing blockages and restoring normal water flow.

Water Jetting Many gully tankers are also equipped with high-pressure water jetting systems. This feature enables the operators to blast high-pressure water into drains and pipes to dislodge stubborn blockages, ensuring thorough cleaning of the drainage system.

The Rioned RioCom - An Industry Leader

While Gully Tankers are typically large and somewhat unwieldy, the RioCom from Rioned provides high-powered suction and jetting in a compact package. Its smaller size makes it highly manoeuvrable, ideal for accessing gullies and drains in built-up areas, low-emission zones and restricted areas. It is designed for everyday use, with a low operational cost making it a very economical tanker solution.

As a waste tanker, the 7.5t RioCom boasts a 3,000-litre water tank with 2,000 litres dedicated to wastewater and an 1800gpm suction capacity that easily clears flooded areas and cleans them of pollutants. The tank also carries 1,000 litres of clean water for jetting, with a capacity of 2200psi at 22gpm that can clear debris and clean pipes up to 650mm. The water tank can also convert into a full 3,000-litre clean water tank. This versatility allows for larger flushing jobs should the situation demand it.
